The CP-908 is a single board computer based on the 68HC908 microcontroller.
The 68HC908 is a member of the 68HC08 family and has 20K bytes of
on-chip Flash for program storage. A variety of control-related
resources are also integrated into the chip. These include an 8-channel,
8-bit A/D converter, 8 keyboard interrupt inputs, 8 general purpose I/O
lines, built-in Monitor ROM, SCI ( asynchronous ) serial port, SPI
(synchronous) serial port, timer interface module, and 512 bytes of RAM.
A unique feature of the 68HC908 is that its Flash memory is "in-system" programmable. Because user software can erase, write, and read the Flash, it can be programmed in the standard user mode. However, a special "Monitor Mode" is also available on the 68HC908. This mode allows the user to perform various low-level operations on the 68HC908 without executing user code. In particular, the Monitor provides a mechanism for programming the Flash regardless of its state. This is useful for new parts, since they come with the Flash completely erased. The CP-908 contains circuitry supporting both User Mode and Monitor Mode in-system programming. Manual switches on the board allow the user to select between the various User and Monitor Modes. One switch selects either an external 9.8304 MHz oscillator or the on-chip Clock Generator Module. Another switch selects whether -IRQ is pulled to Vtst, +5, or GND. A third switch is used to select the communication link. For User Mode operation, the SCI is selected and is RS-232 buffered. For Monitor Mode operation, the PTA0 line is selected and appropriately buffered for serial communication. The board measures 4.0 by 2.5 inches. As mentioned above, board circuitry supports both Monitor Mode and User Mode operation. Manual switches on the board allow selection of processor clock generation, IRQ input level, and communication link ( SCI for User Mode, PTA0 for Monitor Mode ). In addition, the CP-908 has on-board voltage regulation, power-up reset logic with manual reset switch, two 26-pin header connectors bringing out all 68HC908 lines, a 10 pin header for connecting to the HOST PC, and A/D input buffering circuitry. |
