    Overview
The MICRO BYTE-51 is a miniature single board computer based upon the popular 8051 family of microcontrollers. The family devices which can be installed on the board are the 89C2051 and 89C4051. The 89CX051 parts are fully static MPU's with clock speeds of up to 24 MHz.

Flash Memory
A main advantage of the 89CX051 is its on-chip Flash memory for program storage. Because the Flash is electrically erasable, it is possible to program new application software while the 89CX051 remains installed on the board. This "in-system" programming us performed using Allen Systems' PB-51/11 Programming Board.

Board Features
An important feature of the MICRO BYTE-51 is its small footprint. The board measures only 2.00 by 2.00 inches. Other board features include the DS275 RS-232 transceiver, DS1833 5V EconoReset chip, and a prototyping area. The DS275 is a line-powered transceiver which provides RS-232 levels for the MPU's serial port. The DS1833 generates a board reset on power-up. The prototyping area takes up half of the total board footprint, and can be separated from the board's main circuitry. This results in a board size of 1.00 by 2.00 inches.

Connectors
Board connectors make the MICRO BYTE-51 easy to use. One 26 pin header provides access to all processor resource lines. It can be tied to user circuitry or to the PB-51/11 Programming Board during programming. A three pin header on the board brings out the RS-232 buffered serial lines. This can be connected to the serial port on a host PC. Finally, an on-board regulator allows the MICRO BYTE-51 to be used with an unregulated source of 9 VDC.

Summary
All in all, the MICRO BYTE-51 is a board that is small in size yet big on performance. Its on-chip Flash memory is a powerful feature that simplifies installation and update of user code.
