    Overview
The MP-196 is a single board computer based on the 80C196KC microcontroller. A number of features distinguish the MP-196 from other 80C196 based cards. These include 16 MHz operation, multilayer board with internal power and ground planes for noise reduction, processor supervisory circuit, optional paged memory support, and optional daughterboards.

The MP-196 measures 4.5 by 5.5 inches. Resources on the card can be considered as five separate subsections: 80C196KC microcontroller, memory section, processor supervisory circuit, 88C681 DUART, and daughterboard expansion connector.

Memory
The board supports up to 32K bytes of EPROM and 28K bytes of SRAM. An optional paged memory feature is supported on the MP-196. In this mode, 64K bytes of EPROM and 56K bytes of SRAM are available.

Digital and Serial I/O
Up to three 8-bit parallel ports are available on the 80C196KC, depending on resource usage. In addition, the 88C681 provides one 8-bit output port and one 7-bit input port. Three UARTs are available on the board. Two of these are RS-232C buffered and brought out on header connectors.

Optional Daughterboards
Currently, two optional daughterboards are available. The AC-332 analog daughterboard provides 4 channels of 12-bit A/D conversion and 2 channels of 12-bit D/A conversion. Also, the DIGI-DAC motion control daughterboard provides 6 channels of 12-bit D/A conversion and 24 digital I/O lines.

Connectors
The following CPU lines are brought out on a 2 by 20 pin header connector: Port 0, Port 1, Port 2, and all HSIO (High Speed I/O) lines. The CPU's UART is RS-232C buffered and brought out on a 2 by 5 pin header. Serial Port A of the 88C681 is RS-232 buffered and brought out on a 2 by 5 header. The two parallel ports of the 88C681 and its serial port B lines are brought out ( unbuffered ) to a 2 by 10 pin header. A 2 by 20 pin header is available for adding custom user circuitry or as a connection point for the optional daughterboards.

A/D Converter
The 80C196KC provides 8 channels of 10-bit A/D conversion.

Power Requirements
The MP-196 requires +5 Volts ( regulated ) at 200 ma ( maximum ).
