PB-51/11 Programmer

The PB-51/11 is a cost effective EPROM and Flash programmer for the popular 8051 and 68HC11 microcontroller families. It connects to a PC parallel printer port (either LPT1 or LPT2) and includes the necessary cable and driver software (MS-DOS, 3-1/2 inch disk). Also included is an AC adapter that supplies the 9 VDC power to the board.

The programming board accommodates a number of zero insertion force ( ZIF ) socket types: a 28 pin DIP ZIF for programming the 27C256 ( 32K EPROM ); both a 40 pin DIP ZIF and 44 pin PLCC ZIF for programming the 89CXX ( 4K, 8K, 20K Flash ) and 87C51 ( 4K, 8K, 16K, 32K EPROM ) family devices; and 52 pin PLCC ZIF for 68HC711E9 devices (12K EPROM).

To minimize cost, we offer the board in several configurations. ZIF sockets can be very expensive, especially for the 44 and 52 pin PLCC types. Hence, the board can be purchased with only the required ZIF socket(s) installed. It can even be purchased without any ZIF sockets.

Each PB-51/11 configuration supports a single target device type and package type. If desired, the user can reconfigure the PB-51/11 for other devices and/or packages.

An optional adapter is now available for the 87C550 microcontroller. This adapter is installed at connectors J5 and J6 on the PB-51/11, and comes in two flavors. An economy version is available that uses a conventional PLCC socket. The deluxe version of the adapter has a 68 Pin PLCC ZIF socket installed. The programming algorithm for the 87C550 is identical to the one for 87C5X devices. Hence, the 87C5X driver is used to program the 87C550.

Two pairs of male header connectors on the PB-51/11 allow for programming of Allen Systems' LITTLE BYTE and MICRO BYTE series of single board computers. These cards are very small in size and are in-system programmable.

An assortment of software drivers for the host PC are supplied with the PB-51/11. Currently, five drivers are included: 89C5X, 89C2051, 87C5X, 68HC711E9, and 27C256.

Note that a PLCC Extraction Tool is required to remove the 87C550 from its target hardware. It is also needed with the Economy Version of the 87C550 adapter. This tool can be purchased for $20.00.
